The PSL teams squads will be updated here as soon as they are announced. The Pakistan Super League is finally going to be underway on 4th February 2016. The tournament will be Pakistan’s premier T20 competition, replacing the existing Haier T20 Cup. A total of 5 teams have been proposed to participate in the inaugural edition of the tournament fighting for supremacy. Each team will have 16 players to pick its 11 from. This will include the allowed quota of 5 international players. Since there will just be 20 round robin matches and 4 playoffs; players are expected to retain their fitness in the main and justify the money poured on them.

Pakistan Super League Franchises Sold

PSL franchises sold for 10 year period, all sold out by 3 pm on 3rd December.
  • Ary Media Group purchased Karachi for $2.6M.
  • Qatar Oil purchased Lahore for $2.4M.
  • UAE Capital Venture purchased Islamabad for $1.5M.
  • Haier purchased Peshawar for $1.6M.
  • Omar Associates purchased Queta for $1.1M.
While the teams are still in the purchase phase, some of the top international have been hired to do business. The likes of Eric Simons, Chaminda Vaas and Mickey Arthur will be around.
Player auction will take place by December. The players and their prices will be based on their experience and their abilities which they have showcased so far. The price for players in different category is as follows:
  • Platinum: 20 million rupees
  • Diamond: 7 million rupees
  • Gold: 5 million rupees
  • Silver: 3 million rupees
  • Emerging : 2 million rupees
Five of the top 10 T20 all-rounders in the ICC rankings have already signed up for the draft pick for PSL.
Sri Lanka’s Angelo Matthews, Lasith Malinga. Tilakaratne Dilshan and Ajantha Mendis are all signed up for PSL. Thisara Perera is another player who has shown interest.
From West Indies Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree have expressed interest so far. Chris Gayle has also signed up with the PSL’s pre-draft agreement and will be one of the hot picks of the competition.
New Zealand’s Grant Elliot and James Franklin are expected to be present. South African Richard Levi and Robert Peterson and England’s Tim Bresnan and Michael Carberry are also players who have expressed an interest in the PSL.
Recently, it has been reported that Kevin Pietersen has signed up for the PSL Draft as well. Brad Haddin and Brad Hodge are the two players from Australia who have shown interest to sign up for the PSL Draft.
While PSL has been getting shelved for long, owing to security concerns; this time it was the concurrent holding of Masters Champions League which spelt a threat. Incidentally, the MCL will be held at Abu Dhabi, while PSL will find its crowning glory in Dubai and Sharjah in the UAE.
There will be 24 matches in all and the tournament will be played in double round robin format before the business end or the playoffs. Long hitters and artistic bowlers from around the world will take part in the competition. Efforts are on to plug all holes in the coming months to ensure a smooth tournament.
The country has a strong cricketing heritage and keeps dishing out prominent players on the scene. The country’s capacity at hurling fast bowlers on the cricketing arena is almost incredible. The administrators are tweaking last-minute changes to ensure that everything is hunky dory.
